The CDBG program is a state-administered federal grant program for local communities to do infrastructure and housing improvements that primarily benefit low- and moderate-income persons. New Kensington proposes to use the FY 2020 grant of $308,171 as follows:
Administration (18%) $ 55,470
Streetscape/Sidewalk Improvements $ 116,891
7th to 11th on 5th Ave. Multi-year project - will involve funding from more than one grant year.
Code Enforcement $ 60,000
Demolition (various sites) $ 75,810
The proposed allocation provides 70% of funds that benefit low- moderate-income persons and 30% addresses blight. The proposed activities will not cause displacement. City Council may approve the CDBG application at the general business meeting on October 5, 2020 at City Hall, 301 11th St. New Kensington, PA (Verify location, in case of COVID-related changes needed, via the City Clerk’s office at the phone number or email address listed above.)
Anyone having an interest in historic resources may also make themselves known and review and comment on the proposed activities. Those individuals will receive future notices regarding program activities and their potential impact on historic resources.
All interested parties are invited to attend the public meeting and give oral testimony at the public meeting or present written comments concerning the needs of the community, proposed CDBG activities, the prior use of funds, as well as the CDBG program in general.
